Spring Greens from Sidehill Farm

spring greens

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind of activity over here, but I wanted to pop in with this very green, very cheerful reminder that the growing season has, indeed, begun — at least, it has in the greenhouses down at Sidehill Farm in Ashfield. That’s where this scrumptious collection of tender salad greens came from, ferried up this way by one of Dan’s coworkers.

There is something so optimistic about that first salad bowl full of tender-crisp spring greens. Next thing you know, there’ll be asparagus stalking around at the farmers’ markets.

Which veggies are you most looking forward to this summer?

Tomatoes. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, better than picking a fresh ripe tomato from the vine and going directly to a tomato sandwich on some good crusty bread. A little mayo, some salt and pepper, and you have a sandwich so good you have to get up and tell someone about it.

Hm. You may be right about that. But I wouldn’t know, due to horrible late blight!

In other words, you’d better bring some of those ripe, juicy tomatoes with you when you come up for Tanglewood this summer!
