Hooray! I’m so excited to share the epic Berkshire county guide I put together, which debuted today on the fabulous blog Design Sponge. If you’re a local, please visit the guide and add your favorites to the comments — there are a number of places that didn’t make the final cut (mostly because I forgot about them).

Hi. Love the Guide as I’m up in that part of the world every weekend. The only issue you I have is the inclusion of Allium in your ‘Best Restaurants’. We – and many many many people I know in the region find the hostess and staff to be rude with attitude as if they were striving to be in NYC and can’t believe their ‘bad luck’ to be Gt Barrington. In fact, it’s so unpleasant that we go to places like John Andrews in Egremont or The Old Mill in Gt Barrington or Pastorale in Salisbury, CT. When everyone else in town is friendly in the region, why would one want to actively choose to spend an evening in a snooty environment? You clearly know the owners and the staff so are greeted in a friendly manner but for the rest of us, I assure you, Manhattan maitre d’s are nicer than Allium’s by a long shot!

Yikes, Jamie. I’m sorry you had that experience at Allium. I do know people involved with the restaurant now, but I didn’t when I first moved to town, and I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. (And I’ve encountered my fair share of snooty Manhattan hosts and hostesses — and nice ones, too — I used to live there.)

I stumbled upon your guide on Design Sponge! Fittingly enough, my husband and I scanned your website for inspiration and dining ideas before our recent one year anniversary trip to the Berkshires. It’s now been over a month since our trip and we’re still talking about Nudel. What an absolutely fantastic restaurant. :)
